Seeing the defeat of deva-s, the fire god, the best among the deva-s,
praised even by the brahma sages, applied his mind (decided) to kill the
sons of diti.

The son of svayaMprabhA, shANDili, the one who carries the oblation,
the one whose sperm is gold, the one with reddish brown eyes, the one who
is offered oblation by deva-s, the one who consumes the oblations,
rohito lohitagrIvo hartA dAtA haviH kaviH |
pAvako vishvabhugdevaH sarvadevAnanaH prabhuH ||3-62-3
the red coloured one, the red-necked one, the destroyer, the purifier,
the oblation, the wise one, the fire god, the deva who consumes the world,
the lord who is the face of all deva-s (who represents all deva-s),
subrahmAtmA suvarchaskaH sahasrArchirvibhAvasuH |
kR^iShNavartmA chitrabhAnurdevAnAmapi devarAT ||3-62-4
the auspicious soul of brahma, the auspicious one who is offered oblations,
the one who is offered thousands of oblations, the god of fire,
the one with black eyelids, the one who shines with light, the king of deva-s
for deva-s as well,
lokasAkShI dvijahutaH sadarchiShmAnvaShaTkR^itaH |
havyabhakShaH shamIgarbhasvayoniH sarvakarmakR^it ||3-62-5
the witness of the worlds, the one who is offered oblations by the twice-born,
the one who is offered oblation by the good, the creator of the exclamation
uttered by the priest at end of reciting the sacrificial verse (vaShaTkR^itaH),
the one who consumes the oblations, the one who is in the womb of Prosopis
Spicigera or Mimosa Suma (shamI - used to kindle sacred fire, having a hard
wood which is supposed to contain fire), the self born, one who performs all
work,

shamanaH sarvapApAnAM lelihAnastapomayaH ||3-62-6
the one who purifies all beings, the wealth of penance for the deva-s,
the one who destroys all sins, the one who frequently licks out the tongue,
the one who is full of penance,
pradakShiNAvartashikhaH shuchiromA makhAkR^itiH |
havyabhugbhUtabhavyesho yaj~nabhAgaharo hariH ||3-62-7
the one having circling whirlpools of flames, the one with sacred smoke
(see nIlakaNTha commentary), the one having the form of sacrifice,
the consumer of oblations, the lord of the past and future, the lord with
reddish brown colour (hari) who takes away his portion of the sacrifice,
somapaH sumahAtejA bhUteshaH sumahAtapAH |
adhR^iShyaH pAvako bhUtirbhUtAtmA vai svadhAdhipaH ||3-62-8
the one who drinks soma, the one having great splendor, the lord of beings,
the one with great auspicious penance, the un-assailable (invincible),
the shining lord, the soul of prosperity and beings, the lord of svadha,

devadevo mahAkrodho rudrAtmA brahmasaMbhavaH ||3-62-9
the husband of svAhA, the one who is praised by the sacred song of sAma,
the consumer of auspicious soma, the one who holds mountains, the lord of
lords,
the one having great anger, the one whose soul is rudra, the one who is
born from brahma,
lohitAshvaM vAyuchakraM rathamAsthAya bhUtadhR^ik |
dhUmaketurdhUmashikho nIlavAsAH surottamaH ||3-62-10
the one with red horses, the one mounted on a chariot having wind as wheels,
the one who holds all beings, the one having smoke as flag, with smoke
like peaks, one with blue garments, the best among deva-s,
udyamya divyamAgneyaM shastraM devo raNe mahAn |
dAnavAnAM sahasrANi prayutAnyarbudAni cha ||3-62-11
dadAha bhagavAnvahniH sa~NkruddhaH pralaye yathA |
holding the divine weapon of fire, the great lord, lord fire, becoming
angry entered the battle and burned the sons of danu in thousands,
millions and also ten millions, as at the end of the era.

yantA yashcha hutAshashcha sakhA cha prabhurIshvaraH |
The one who resides in the bodies of all beings as life-force in five
forms, the lord, the great lord, the friend of the consumer of oblations,
prabha~njano yo lokAnAM yugAnte sarvanAshanaH ||3-62-13
saptasvaragatA yasya yonirgIrbhirudIryate |
the god of wind, the destroyer of the entire world at the end of the era,
the one who is manifested in the seven notes, the one who is born from words,
yo hyAkAshamayo devo dUragaH sarvasaMbhavaH ||3-62-14
yashcha kartA vikartA cha gatirgatimatAM prabhuH |
the one who is of the sky, the lord, who goes far, the one who produces all,
the creator and destroyer of the world, the lord who is the ultimate refuge,
the last refuge, the lord,
vedakartA samo loke brahmaNA yaH sanAtanaH ||3-62-15
amUrtimantaM yaM prAhurmahAbhUtaM mahattaraM |
the creator of veda, the eternal lord who is equal to brahma in the world,
the one who is told as the formless one, the great being, the most superior
lord,
so.agniM samIrayAmAsa shamIgarbhaM samIriNaH ||3-62-16
that wind god flourished the god of fire residing in the womb of Prosopis
Spicigera or Mimosa Suma (shamI - used to kindle sacred fire,

The god of fire flourished with flames reaching up to heaven, in all the
ten directions, like the fire rising up at the end of the era for destroying
the sons of danu.

yodhashIrShopalavanaM mR^itadvipataTotkaTAm ||3-62-18
shoNitodAM raNe dR^iShTvA sa~NgrAmasaritaM vibhuH |
Mixed with the huge dirt of fat and bone marrow, having the weed of hair,
the rocks of the heads of (slain) fighters, the banks of dead elephants
and the water of blood, the lord saw the battle-river in the battle field.
vahniH praskandayAmAsa daityAnAM bhayavardhanaH ||3-62-19
The lord of fire, the one who increases the fear of the sons of diti made the
battle of river flow in the battle field.

parAjayAnaH sa vibhuH kroshamano mahAmR^idhe ||3-62-20
Then the lord of fire, defeating the entire sons of diti such as prahlAda
in the great battle, roared.

kechitpradIptairurubhiH kechichChatrairdhvajai rathaiH |

In the battle field, demons were seen surrounded by blazing fire,
some with blazing heads, some with loose burning hair, some with burning
clothes, some with burning arms and mouth, some with burning thighs,
some with burning umbrellas, flagstaffs and chariots,
tyaktvA.a.ayudhAni sarvANi sadhvajAMshcha rathottamAn |
prayAnti samare bhItAH pAvakena parAjitAH ||3-62-23
The demons defeated by the fire god abandoned all their weapons, all their
best chariots along with flagstaff and ran away from the battle field due
to fear.
na cha pashyanti te vahniM pradIptadhvajinImukhe |
dishaH khadgAMshcha meghAMshcha dIptAnpashyanti dAnavAH ||3-62-24
They did not see the blazing fire at the forefront of the battle. The sons
of danu saw all the directions, sky, earth and clouds blazing with fire.
dhruvaH svayaMbhuvA sR^iShTo yugAntastoyayoninA |
ityevaM dAnavAH sarve menire trastachetasaH ||3-62-25
All the sons of danu, with their minds terrified, considered that the fire
god, the fixed, the self born, the one who is born from water created the
end of the era.
mayashcha shambarashchaiva mahAmAyAdharau tadA |
pArjanyavAruNI mAye sR^ijatAM vArivikShare ||3-62-26
maya as well as shambara, the two who hold great illusion, created the
illusions of parjanya and vAruNi, which produces water streams.
tAbhyAM vahniH sa mAyAbhyAM sichyamAnaH samantataH |
toyaughaiH parvatanibhairmR^idvarchirabhavadraNe ||3-62-27
The fire god who was wetted by the illusion of water everywhere,
became soft by the oblation of water showered by the group of huge
water bearing clouds in the battle field.
shamyamAne tu samare pAvake daityanAshini |
bR^ihatkIrtirbR^ihattejA vahnimAha bR^ihaspatiH ||3-62-28
Then the highly splendorous, highly famous bR^ihaspati (the preceptor of
deva-s) told the fire god, the destroyer of the sons of diti, the one who
was getting calm in the battle field (due to shower of water).

hiraNyaretaH sumukha jvalanAhvaya sarvabhuk |
saptajihvAnanakShAma lelihAna mahAbala ||3-62-29
guru (bR^ihaspati) said:
O the one having gold as sperm! The one with auspicious face, god of blazing
fire, the consumer of all, one having face with seven tongues, the one who
burns all to ashes, the one who frequently licks out the tongue,
the highly powerful one!
AtmA vAyustava vibho sharIraM sarvavIrudhaH |
yonirApashcha te proktA yonistvamasi chAmbasaH ||3-62-30
O lord! Your soul is wind. Your body has all the medicines. Water is your
source and you are the source of water.
UrdhvaM chAdhashcha gachChanti sa~ncharanti cha pArshvataH |
archiShaste mahAbhAga sarvataH prabhavanti cha ||3-62-31
You go up as well as down. You go to sides and all around. O highly
fortunate one! Oblations are offered to you everywhere.
tvamevAgne sarvamasi tvayi sarvamidaM jagat |
tvaM dhArayasi bhUtAni bhuvanaM tvaM bibharShi cha ||3-62-32
O the god of fire! You are all. You are the entire world. You carry all the
beings. You govern this world.
tvamagne havyavADekastvameva paramaM haviH |
yajanti cha sadA santastvAmeva paramAdhvare ||3-62-33
O the god of fire! You bathe in oblations. You are the highest oblation.
The good always worship only you at the highest sacrifice.
tvamannaM prANinAM bhu~NkShe jagdhapItAsi tvaM prabho |
tvayi pravR^itto vijayastvayi lokAH pratiShTitAH ||3-62-34
You are the food that the beings consume, eat and drink, O lord! The victory
is fixed in you. The world is fixed in you.
    sarvA.NllokAMstrInimAnhavyavAha
        prApte kAle tvaM pachasyeva dIptaH |
    tvamevaikastapase jAtavedo
        nAnyastvatto vidyate goshu deva ||3-62-35
O the one who carries the oblations! When the time comes, you cook all
the three worlds, blazing. You are the one who grants the benefits for
penance. O lord! There is no one other than you among the rays of light.

        mahAmakheShvagryaharastvameva |
    vishvasya bhUmnastvamasi prasUti-
        stvaM cha pratiShThA bhagavatprajAnAm ||3-62-36
O the lord of fire! You are the sun, you are the lord of flood. You are the
foremost in the great sacrifices. You are the one who brings forth the entire
world. O lord! You are the one who establishes the beings in the world.

    vishvaM tvamAdAya yugAntakAle
        sraShTA bhavasyAnala sargakAle ||3-62-37
With the rays you create water, medicines and medicinal juices.
At the time of the end of the era, you consume the world and create the
present (world) at the time of creation.

O the lord of fire! You are the source of all beings as sung in vedas.
You killed the sons of danu for the benefit of deva-s.

tAM svayoniM samAsAdya kiM viShIdasi pAvaka ||3-62-39
O the one of great splendor! Your source is water, offered in hundreds of
sacrifices. O the god of fire! Why are you being sad in your own source?

O the best among deva-s! Protect the deva-s, from the sons of diti in the
