nAradaH sarvalokaj~naH pauNDrasya nagaraM prati ||3-92-1
vaishampAyana said:
(O janamejaya!) Then, the best among the sages, nArada, knowledgeable about
all the worlds, proceeded to the city of pauNDra from the peak of mountain
kailAsa.
avatIrya nabhobhAgAtpratyAgamya narottamam |
dvAHsthena cha samAj~naptaH pravivesha gR^ihottamam||3-92-2
The sage, descending from the sky and announced by the door keeper, entered
the best of the house of king pauNDra, the best among men.
arghyAdisamudAchAraM nR^ipAllabdhvA mahAmuniH |
niShasAdAsane shubhre hyAstR^ite shubhavAsasA ||3-92-3
The great sage received a respectful reception from the king and sat on an
auspicious seat on which a white sheet was spread.
kushalaM pR^iShTavAnbhUyo nR^ipaH sa munisattamam |
uvAcha nAradaM bhUyaH pauNDrako balagarvitaH ||3-92-4
The king asked about the welfare of the best among the sages again.
Then king pauNDra, proud due to his power again spoke to nArada.
bhavAnsarvatra kushalaH sarvakAryeShu paNDitaH |
prathito devasiddheShu gandarveShu mahAtmasu ||3-92-5
(pauNDraka said): O sage! You are interested in the welfare of all.
You are learned in all matters. You are famous among the great deva-s,
siddha-s and gandharva-s.
sarvatrago nirAbAdho gatvA sarvatra sarvadA |
agamyaM tava viprendra brahmANDe na hi ki~nchana ||3-92-6
You go everywhere. You go everywhere always without any obstacle. O the
king among brahmins! There is no place in the universe where you can not go.
nAradedaM vada tvaM hi yatra yatra gato bhavAn |
tatra tatra tapaHsiddho loke prathitavIryavAn ||3-92-7
O nArada, having the expertise in penance and famous as valiant in the world!
Wherever you go, there you speak like this:
pauNDra eva cha vikhyAto vAsudeveti shabditaH |
sha~NkhI chakrI gadI shAr~NgI khaDgI tUNI tanutravAn |
pauNDra is the one who is famous by the name vAsudeva. He is the one who
holds the conch, chakra, mace, the bow shAr~Nga, sword and the quiver.
vijetA rAjasiMhAnAM dAtA sarvasya sarvadA ||3-92-8
He is the one who conquers the lions among the kings and who gives all for
all always.
bhoktA rAjyasya sarvasya shAstA rAjA balAdbalI |
ajeyaH shatrusainyAnAM rakShitA svajanasya cha ||3-92-9
He is the one who enjoys the kingdoms. He is the king who governs all. He is
the powerful with power. He can not be conquered by the army of enemies. He
is the protector of his people.
yo.adya gopakanAmAsau vAsudeveti shabditaH |
tasya vIryabale na sto nAmno.asya mama dhArNE ||3-92-10
Now there is one cowherd who has taken the name of vAsudeva, he does not
have the valiance and power to take up my name.
sa hi gopo vR^ithA bAlyAddhArayattyeva nAma me |
That cowherd is taking up my name in vain due to childishness.
idaM nishchinu viprendra eka eva bhavAmyahaM ||3-92-11
vAsudevo jagatyasminnirjitya balinaM yaduM |
O the indra of brahmins! Get this firmly. I will become the only vAsudeva
in the universe after conquering the powerful one belonging to the race of
yadu.
vR^iShNInsarvAnbalAtkShiptvA nihaniShye cha tAM purIM ||3-92-12
dvArakAM viShNunilayAM yoddhA chAhaM mahAmate |
O the one with great intellect! (nArada!) I, the fighter,
will throw away (defeat) all the vR^iShNi-s with my power and destroy the
city of dvAraka, the residence of viShNu.
ete cha balinaH sarve nR^pA mama samAgatAH ||3-92-13
All these kings who have come to me are powerful.
ashvAshcha veginaH santi rathA vAyujavA mama |
nAnAmantrAH sahasraM cha gajA niyutameva cha ||3-92-14
I have fast horses as well as chariots with the speed of wind. I have
thousands of elephants with mahouts.
etenAhaM balenAjau haniShye keshavaM raNe |
tasmAdevaM sadA vipra vada brahmanpure mama ||3-92-15
With this army, I will kill keshava in the battle. Hence, O Brahmin!
Always tell this in the city of brahma as well as in my city.
indrasyApi sadA vipra vada nArada sAMpratam |
prArthanaishcha mama vibho namasye tvAM tapodhana ||3-92-16
O Brahmin! O nArada! Always tell this in the city of indra as well. O lord!
This is my prayer. O the one with wealth of penance! I bow to you.

nArada said:
Wherever the universe exists, I am always capable of going. O king!
I am the preceptor for all matters, even though I am a traveler.
kiMnu vaktuM tathA rAjannutsahe nR^ipasattama |
mahIM shAsati deveshe chakrapANau janArdane ||3-92-18
O the best among kings! I will not endeavour to speak like that,
as janArdana(*), the one who holds chakra, the lord of gods, govern the earth.
viShNau sarvatrage deve duShTAnhatvA sabAndhavAn |
vAsudeveti ko nAma tiShThatyasminharAviti ||3-92-19
viShNu is the god who is everywhere, who, along with his kin, has killed all
the wicked. Who is there to take up the name vAsudeva when hari (viShNu) is
there?
ko nAma vaktumevedaM kR^iShNe shAsati gomatI |
aj~nAnAdvaktumevaM cha samArthA prAkR^itA janAH ||3-92-20
While kR^iShNa governs heaven and earth brightened by sunlight, who can speak like this?
The ignorant people may speak like this due to ignorance.
hariH sarvatrago viShNurdarpaM te vyapaneShyati |
achintyavibhavo viShNuH shAr~NgadhanvA gadAdharaH ||3-92-21
hari, viShNu, who can go everywhere, will destroy your pride. viShNu, who
holds the bow shAr~Nga and the mace, can not be conceived.
AdidevaH purANAtmA darpaM te vyapaneShyati |
hAsyametanmahArAja yachcha vai tatra saMsthitaM ||3-92-22
The primal lord, the ancient soul, viShNu, will destroy your pride.
O great king! This is definitely humour as it is with you.
shAr~NgaM khaDgaM tathA rAjanmahAghoraM na dApyate |
atIva hAsakAlo.ayaM tava saMprati vartate ||3-92-23
O king! The bow and the sword (of viShNu) are highly terrible weapons, these
can not be brought under your control. This is the time for high humour for
you.
