vaishampAyana said:
O great king! (janamejaya)! Then, pauNDra, proud due to the false sense of power, became angry. He spoke to nArada, the best among brahmins, in the assembly of kings.
kimidaM prAha viprarShe rAjAhaM cha dvijaiH saha |
gachCha tvaM kAmamatha vA mune shApapradaH sadA ||3-93-2
(pauNDra said) : Why are you speaking like this? I am the king along with the twice-born. O Brahmin sage! You may go as you wish. You are always capable of cursing.
bhItastvatto mahAbuddhe gachCha tvaM kAmamadya hi |
O the one with great intellect! I am afraid of you. You may go now as you wish.
ityukto nR^ipavIryeNa tUShNImeva sa nAradaH ||3-93-3
jagAmAkAshagamano yatra tiShThati keshavaH |
(vaishampAyana continued: O janamejaya!) nArada, who was spoken to like this by the valiant king, without saying anything, went through the sky to the place where keshava (kR^iShNa) was staying (the hermitage of badarI).
sa gatvA viShNusa~NkAshaM viShNoH sarvaM shashaMsa ha ||3-93-4

Saying this, kR^iShNa (viShNu) retired at the hermitage of badarika.

ashvairanekasAhasrairgajairbahubhiranvitaH |
Then, lord pauNDra, with great arms, along with many armies, having thousands of horses and many elephants,
shastrakoTisamAyuktaH sa rAjA satyasaMgaraH ||3-93-7
along with ten million weapons, that king, who fights a true battle,
anekashatasAhasraiH pattibhishcha samanvitaH |
ekalavyaprabhR^itibhI rAjabhishcha samantataH ||3-93-8
accompanied by hundred thousand foot soldiers, along with kings such as ekalavya,
aShTau rathasahasrANi nAgAnAmayutaM tathA |
arbudaM pattisa~NghAnAM tadbalaM samapadyata ||3-93-9
eight thousand chariots, ten thousand elephants, assembling an army of ten million foot soldiers,
etena cha balenAjau prasphurannR^ipasattamaH |
virarAja mahArAja udayastho mahAraviH ||3-93-10
sa yayau madhyarAtreNa nagarIM dvArakAmanu |
the best of the kings, (king pauNDra), sparkling with the army, O great king, (janamejaya! vaishampAyana continued), dazzling, like the great sun rising up in the morning, arrived at the city of doors (dvAraka) in the middle of the night.
pattayo dIpikAhastA ratrau tamasi dAruNe ||3-93-11
yayurvividhashastraughA saMpatanto mahAbalAH |
In the terrible darkness of the night, the foot soldiers, running, holding lighted torches along with varieties of weapons,
dvArakAM vIryasaMpannAM mahAghorAM nR^pottamAH ||3-93-12
rathaM mahAntamAruhya shastraughashcha samAvR^itam |
and the highly powerful men, the highly terrible and valiant, the best among kings, mounted on great chariots, surrounded by group of weapons, arrived at the city of doors (dvAraka).
paTTishAsisamAkIrNaM gadAparighasa~Nkulam ||3-93-13
shaktitomarasa~NkIrNaM dhvajamAlAsamAchitam |
ki~NkinIjAlasaMyuktaM sharAsiprAsasMyutam ||3-93-14
Mounted in the chariot having many spears with sharp edges (paTTisha) and swords, many maces and iron bludgeons (parigha), many spears (shakti) and lances (tomara), flagstaff and garlands, decorated by a group of bells, having arrows, sword and barbed darts (prAsa),
mahAghoraM mahAraudraM yugAntajaladopamam |
dhanurgadAsamAkIrNaM mahAvAdyopamam mahat ||3-93-15
highly terrible and highly violent, comparable to a water bearing cloud at the end of the era, having many bows and maces, having a sound similar to the sound of a great thunder cloud,
agnyarkasadR^ishAkAraM yayau dvAravatImanu |
gR^ihItadIpiko rAjA vIryavAnbalavAnnR^ipa ||3-93-16
having a form similar to fire and the sun, O king, (janamejaya! vaishampAyana continued), the valiant, powerful king (pauNDra), holding a blazing torch, arrived at the city of doors (dvAraka).
hantumaichChajjagannAthaM vR^iShNIMshchaiva samantataH |
AkarShanbalamukhyAMstAnrAj~naH sarvAnmahAdyutiH ||3-93-17
The king (pauNDra) with great splendor, desiring to kill the lord of the universe (kR^iShNa) along with vR^iShNi-s, bringing great armies and all the kings,
puradvAraM samAsAdya balaM saMsthApya yatnataH |
idaM provAcha rAjA tu nR^ipAnsarvAnavasthitAn ||3-93-18
arriving at the entrance of the city and taking efforts to establish the army, spoke thus to all the kings who assembled there.
tADyatAmatra bherI tu nAma vishrAvya mAmakam |
yudhyatAM yudhyatAmatra deyaM vA pratidIyatAm ||3-93-19
(king pauNDra said) "Let the kettle drums be played here, praising my name. Fight! Fight! Or pay the tribute that is to be given.
AgataH pauNDrako rAjA yuddhArthI vIravattaraH |
hantukAmaH samagrAnvaH kR^iShNabAhubalAshrayAn ||3-93-20
The highly valiant king pauNDra has arrived, asking for battle, with a desire to kill all of you, who are dependent on the power of kR^iShNa's arms."

dIpikAshcha pradIpyante bahvyaH shatasahasrashaH ||3-93-21
Many messengers, who were told to convey thus to the yAdava-s, were sent, lighting, hundreds and thousands of torches.
itashchetashcha rAjAno yudhyante yuddhalAlasAH |
purIM te puratastatra kShatriyAH shastriNastadA ||3-93-22
Kings who were delighted in battles, the kShatriya kings holding weapons, were fighting here and there, fighting against the city (dvAraka).
siMhanAdaM prakurvantaH shastradhArAsamAkulAH |
kuto.ayaM vR^iShNipravaraH kuto rAjA jagatpatiH ||3-93-23
The kings, holding many weapons, shouted with the roar of lions: Where is the chief of vR^iShNi-s? Where is the king, the lord of the universe?
kuto.ayaM sAtyakirvIraH kuto hArdikya eva cha |
kuto nu balabhadrashcha sarvayAdavasattamaH |
Where is the valiant sAtyaki? Where is hArdikya (kR^itavarma)? Where is balabhadra (balarAma), the best among all the yAdava-s?
ityevaM kathayanto vai rAjAnaH sarva eva te ||3-93-24
    AdAya shastrANi bahUni sarvataH
        sharAMshcha chApAni bahUni sarve |
    yuddhaya sannAhanibaddhasho yayu-
        rhareH purIM dvAravatIM nR^ipottamAH ||3-93-25
Shouting thus, all the kings , the best among kings, all of them taking up many weapons, arrows and many bows, preparing for battle and arranging the armies, arrived at the city of doors (dvAravati).
